Once a song is chosen, please fill out the application (link above) and return it with payment to the School’s NYSSMA Coordinator as indicated above on the registration form.Music students performed at the NYSSMA Solo Festival on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6. Students who are interested in going to either festival should prepare early and work with a music teacher to choose a piece from the NYSSMA manual. It is not necessary to attend both the All-State festival and the NYSSMA festival. Students who opt to perform an All-State solo will also receive comments and a score and will be eligible for All-County. The difference between the All-State Conference and the NYSSMA Festival is that students who choose to compete at the All-State Festival will be considered for selection to the All-State Chorus, which takes place during the NYSSMA conference in late November or early December. Students enrolled in 10th or 11th grade are permitted to audition for an NYSSMA Conference All-State music group. Students are generally notified in early winter if they have been selected. The scores generated at the NYSSMA festival are submitted to the Nassau Music Educators’ Association (NMEA) in September for consideration. Students who are interested in performing a solo for an adjudicator in order to receive feedback with comments, as well as a numerical score, should consider attending this festival.Īttending the NYSSMA festival in the spring is the only way to be considered for the NMEA sponsored All-County Festival the following January.
